As summer quickly approaches us in NYC, the weather brings out the best in all of us. In the summer we tend to find more people active and that translates to networking connections. As the weather is nicer more and more people tend to work less but network more. There are a significant increase in events to accommodate networking connections that goes in the summer time, especially in a vibrant city such as Manhattan.
Today social media allows for networking connections to take place every second with sites like Linkedin, or Twitter. Today, more than ever before social media is taking over, but never under estimate the power of personal connections. The integration of Twitter or Linkedin allows for those personal connections to perpetuate, but that does not mean that it will be as strong a connection a year or two down the line. That’s where human contact comes in to play and should if possible be integrated if you want to get the most out of the people you’re networking with.
With all that being said, there is a huge difference between connecting on a social media site without meeting in person rather than meeting that person first and then connecting via social media. People are more comfortable and less skeptical if the process is done correctly.
